Russell and Katy were attendees at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy gala on January 30, 2010.
I was watching the live stream on Grammy.com and saw Russ & Katy interviewed — Russ was on great form and joked around with the interviewer. Russ was asked how Katy has influenced his musical taste and they both agreed that it’s the other way around — Russ has introduced her to Morrissey, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Stone Roses, Tom Waits and much more.
Katy has influenced his comedy in the sense that his material is now about domesticity — the cats not getting along, burglar alarms, and cleaning your teeth together.
I managed to record the very end of their interview — wish I’d gotten the whole thing, but maybe the rest will show up on Youtube.
EDIT: Full video now available below! Thanks to @charchaos for alerting me!
Just announced: Russell will be a performer at the Tenacious D and Friends “Stand with Haiti” benefit on Tuesday, Feb. 2nd.
Russell joins huge names such as Ben Stiller, Jason Segel, Frank Black, Patton Oswalt, and of course, Tenacious D, for this rock & comedy extravaganza at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.
Among the films completed but yet to be released by the studio is The Tempest, starring Helen Mirren and featuring Russell Brand as Trinculo.
The film is a reworking of the classic Shakespeare play, with the gender of lead character Prospero changed to the female Prospera (Mirren).
The unreleased Miramax films will either be shelved, or will be given limited theatrical released and then end up on DVD. Here’s hoping it’s the latter for The Tempest.
Russell will be doing two gigs working on new material 28th & 29th January, 11pm at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, 5919 Franklin Ave, Hollywood, CA 90028.
