7. Russell Brand

Essex born, former shagger of the year Russell Brand is a well known Hammer, following his father’s example by avidly supporting The Irons, and attending games whenever his schedule permits.

West Ham supporters can thank ol’Russ and his other half, Katy Perry, for singlehandedly putting West Ham on the map after his fiancé donned a West Ham United outfit at the MTV European Music Awards in 2009.

Russell has two books published containing his musings on the beautiful game (‘Irons in the Fire’ and ‘Articles of Faith’) containing an assortment of the articles he wrote for the Guardian. Today, despite becoming nice and famous, Brand still writes the odd football column, and can now be read in the News of the World.

Number 7?! Should be higher on the list. Granted, other celeb supporters may be more famous, but how many of them have published two books dedicated to their love of football generally, and the Hammers specifically?

LIKE most people, when I pop to the lavvy during a football match something important happens.

I missed Gazza’s yellow card against Germany in 1990 because I was in the loo.

Michael Owen’s goal against Argentina in 98 – I was unwell that year and by the time Beckham scored a penalty against Argentina in 2002 I had quite a serious drug problem and never really left the toilet.

So now that I’ve been away from home for a few months, living with my future wife and squinting at football on the internet, I shouldn’t be surprised that the National game has gone berserk.

Oddly, I suspect that my absence has been an influence, in fact I feel like that bloke in Gremlins who entrusted the lad with the Mogwai with very simple, if mysterious, instructions only for bedlam to be unleashed when they were ignored.

Here’s Russell being interviewed as he arrives at the recent Victoria’s Secret party.

Listen closely at the very end and you can hear him being asked if he’ll pose for a photo with the models, and he says “No, I’d be killed for that.”

I’m pretty sure the engagement is still on.

Russell was photographed attending the Victoria’s Secret Swim Catalogue party in Los Angeles last night.

He also was seen at the Zooey Deschanel concert at the El Rey Theatre.  Pics below.

Just announced: Russell will be at the Moore Theatre in Seattle on April 23.

For personal reasons, I’m very pleased that Russell will finally be doing a gig in Pacific Northwest! This is the only time he’s done a gig that I could reasonably go to without air travel.

Tickets go on sale Friday March 26 at 10 AM.

Will there be more US dates? I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.

Comedian Russell Brand has about 20 minutes of new material he wants to try out while he’s on holidays just outside Mullumbimby. Russell and his lady love are holidaying in Main Arm. This gives young Russ the perfect opportunity to pop into The Courthouse Open Mic gig for an informal appearance next Thursday, April 1, from 8pm. (Source)

This sounded surprising at first, but I have no reason not to believe it’s true!

I confess I had never heard of Mullumbimby, but I now know it’s in New South Wales, Australia.

So if you’re in that area … this might be your chance to see an informal gig by Ol’ Russ. Report back.

Edit: This appears to have been a mistake on the part of the newspaper that reported it. Sorry if anyone got their hopes up! I will post news of any other upcoming gigs as soon as I hear anything.

Russell makes a statement with a t-shirt that reads, “Legalize Gay – Repeal Proposition 8 now.”

Proposition 8 is the controversial measure which amended the California constitution to only recognize marriage between a man and a woman.
